So far these have proved to be a bit of a nemesis.
These boxes were bought off of TEMU on a special deal and at the time I had no idea what I was going to do with them.
Upon receiving them I was pleasantly surprised with the overall size and apparent quality of the hardware. Unfortunately the top surface is quite soft and whilst not overly prevalent to the naked eye they have received various little knocks and bumps during there life that do not lend themselves to time engraving.
As I couldn’t decide what to try and put on them, I used a generic bee design with space in the middle to add customisation i.e. a name.
Due to the multiple aspects of the design I choose to setup six different engrave settings to infill the vector image design and in hindsight I probably should have used a bitmap image and greyscale shading.
After the first attempt I decided to cover the top with masking tape and then after multiple attempts at scoring through the tape I got down to the level that the wood was also scored. Picking out the scored now cut pieces of tape allowed me with my very limited painting skills to colour different sections of the box whilst retaining an etched wood outline.
Still not convinced by the overall design, lasering process and finished product so more prototyping is required to meet my standards.
